Recovering perfectionist over here! Anyone else?

It was a few months into my painting practice when I realized that playing and processing with my paint was helping me let go of my perfectionist tendencies.

It was a lightbulb moment that I will honestly never forget. It's the moment that led me here, writing to you, all about peaceful painting and mindful art!

Now, fast forward almost two years, when I am painting, it feels like I’m part of something bigger than myself. I feel empowered to try anything, no matter how wild and weird it might seem.

If painting scares you, you're not alone. you’re just getting started, here are a few small things you can do to let loose in your art practice just for fun. I share these daily in my watercolor and mixed media workshops with the Peaceful Painting Club:

1. Close your eyes, grab a crayon, and draw your happy place as your first layer

2. Pick up your paper and rotate it *as* you’re putting paint to paper

3. Hold your paintbrush or pen in any way EXCEPT the way you’d normally hold it

This takes practice! There’s some misconception out there that to be “intuitive” and “mindful” with your art, it should just happen magically. That’s not so. Practice is important - it really is just like budling a muscle.

It might be painful at first (hi inner critic!) but with a guide & support (hi, it’s me!), letting go and painting as if you don’t have a care in the world is one of the most freeing, liberating, joyful experiences I’ve created for myself.

I want you to experience this gift too!! That’s why the Peaceful Painting Club was created... so many more watercolor and mixed media lessons, experiments, and art supply demos to come. We’re just getting started!!
